
India–Phillipines Brahmos Missile: Amid tensions with China, Philippines is now demanding 9 BrahMos anti-ship coastal missile batteries from India to further increase the strength of its military. This demand of the Philippines is an extension of the Land-Based Anti-Ship Missile System (ISBASMS) acquisition project received from India. Under this, two batteries were given to Philippines from India.
It is noteworthy that the coast-based anti-ship missile acquisition project between India and the Philippines was started in the year 2015, but later this project was canceled. Which changed into Land Based Missile System (LBMS) acquisition project in the year 2019, which was approved in 2021.
After this, in the year 2022, Philippines signed a deal worth $375 million with India regarding BrahMos missile. Under this deal, Philippines will be given land-based BrahMos missiles along with its batteries, launchers and other equipment from India. After this deal signed in 2022, Philippines received the first consignment of BrahMos missiles from India in the year 2024.
Philippines first country to buy BrahMos missile from India
In the first consignment from India, the Philippines has received BrahMos missiles, mobile launchers mounted on Tatra 6×6 vehicles and an integrated logistics support package. Philippines Marine Corps personnel have completed operator and maintenance training for the system. Keeping in mind the tropical environment of the Philippines, India has configured two missile launchers per battery for the Philippines, which is completely different from the three launcher configuration used in India. Let us tell you that Philippines is the first country in the world to buy BrahMos missile from India. After this, talks are now going on for its deal with Vietnam, Indonesia and UAE.
How deadly is India’s BrahMos missile??
India developed the BrahMos missile in collaboration with Russia in the 1990s. This deadly missile has been integrated into land-based coastal batteries, naval ships and air defense systems. The range of BrahMos missile is up to 900 kilometers depending on the variant. Whereas in the export version, its capacity has been kept at 290 kilometers. This deadly missile of India is capable of carrying a warhead of 200 to 300 kg and attacking at a speed between Mach 2 and 3.
