The miraculous survival of Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national of Indian origin, has gripped social media following the tragic Air India crash that claimed over 240 lives on Thursday.
Ramesh was the only person to survive after the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad, moments after take-off. The crash, which left wreckage scattered across the city’s western suburbs, has shocked the nation and the aviation world.
Bloodied But Alive
Footage taken shortly after the crash showed Ramesh limping towards an ambulance, covered in blood, but alive. He was later photographed in hospital, with visible injuries to his face, chest and feet.
“It all happened so quickly,” he told Hindustan Times. “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me.”
Ramesh was seated in 11A, according to the flight manifest. It’s still unclear how he survived, but parts of the aircraft were reportedly intact after the crash.
