A social media influencer has found himself in hot water for riding superbikes and performing stunts in ecologically sensitive and restricted zones of Pangong Lake and the sand dunes of the Nubra area in Ladakh.

The police booked the influencer, identified as Ali Aalyan Iqbal, after he posted several pictures and videos of stunt biking on the bank of Pangong and over the sand dunes, which is prohibited for locals and tourists on his Instagram account.

Iqbal has been booked under Section 125 (acts endangering life or the personal safety of others) and Section 292 (public nuisance in cases not otherwise specified) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In an official statement on X, the Leh police said, “A domestic tourist was booked under Sections 125 and 292 of BNS 2023 for dangerously riding a bike in restricted zones of Pangong Lake and Nubra sand dunes, endangering Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem. Visitors are urged to respect local laws to protect Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem.”

Iqbal, known for his biking and bodybuilding videos, was seen riding his Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki Ninja superbikes in Leh. In one of the videos, he is seen riding through the Nubra sand dunes, where his bike gets stuck and kicks up clouds of sand.

In another clip, he is seen riding a Hayabusa and posing shirtless. One of his posts has multiple pictures in which he is seen performing headstands on the top of his bikes in Pangong Lake.

Netizens Slam Influencer

Many social media users and even his followers have slammed Iqbal for endangering the environment of Ladakh.

“Love the thrill of adventure, but not at the cost of Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem! Riding on sand dunes and Pangong Lake is a no-go, mate. Let’s enjoy the beauty without destroying it. Your followers look up to you for inspiration, not environmental harm,” a user commented.

“Because of people like you, others can’t peacefully enjoy tourist places. If you’re so passionate about taking your bike into water, then come with me — I’ll take you to some amazing water crossings in Ladakh. But please, don’t do things like this. When others see you doing it, they’ll start doing the same,” commented another.
