A woman who always felt different from her siblings took a DNA test out of curiosity, only to uncover a family secret that changed her identity and connected her to a new culture.

An Uncanny Feeling Of Difference

Kate, who goes by @juust_kate on TikTok, grew up in France believing she was of Portuguese descent. However, her appearance, darker skin tone and resistance to sunburn, often drew remarks that she looked more Middle Eastern than European.

Unlike her blue-eyed, fair-skinned siblings, Kate didn’t feel she resembled the rest of her family.

A Connection To Egypt

Since childhood, Kate had been fascinated with ancient Egyptian civilisation, a passion her mother playfully acknowledged by calling her ‘little Cleopatra’. Still, doubts lingered about her heritage.

In 2019, she decided to take a DNA test, expecting modest results that aligned with her upbringing.

Surprising DNA Results

The test results were far from expected: Kate was 58.4% Egyptian, 22.9% Portuguese, 14.1% South Italian, and 4.6% Algerian. Shocked by these findings, she confronted her mother, who gave vague, philosophical replies about universal connection and identity.

A Stranger’s Message Reveals The Truth

The real turning point came in 2022, when Kate received a message from a stranger claiming to know her biological father. Confronting her mother once more, Kate learned the man who raised her was not her biological father; her real father was an Egyptian man who had passed away.

Kate described the experience as emotionally shattering: “Mourning someone I could never meet was the most difficult experience for me.”

A Newfound Family

Yet, from the pain came something beautiful: she discovered and connected with three siblings in Egypt, forming a strong bond with them.

Kate now advises others to think carefully before taking a DNA test. “If you are not mentally prepared to handle the consequences, it is better not to take the test,” she says. “It can change your existence, relationships, and identity.”
