Discussions around the traditional seven vows of marriage have surged recently, particularly following a series of high-profile criminal cases involving married couples. These cases have prompted widespread debate and social media commentary, including memes that revisit the meaning and relevance of wedding vows. Amidst this chatter, a light-hearted video from a wedding has gone viral, thanks to the bride’s friends putting a humorous spin on a sacred ritual.

The ‘Second Seven Vows’

In the now-viral video, shared by Instagram user Ruchika Asatkar (@ruchika_asatkar), the wedding ceremony proceeds as usual with the priest conducting the traditional rituals, including the seven vows. However, once the formalities are completed, the bride’s friends step forward and declare, “Now it is time for the second seven vows. We’ve heard the rituals of the priest; now we’ll hear the rituals of the priestess.”

Holding a large mock-legal card, they proceed to read aloud a customised set of playful vows directed at the groom — each promise tailored to favour the bride, Pratiksha.

These included:

  1. I will always keep Pratiksha happy, unconditionally.
  2. I will take Pratiksha on international holidays three times a year.
  3. I will accompany her to eat sushi.
  4. I will cook for Pratiksha daily.
  5. I will support Pratiksha’s content creation.
  6. I will never say no to Pratiksha — whether for dinner or a long drive.
  7. Pratiksha is always right.

Groom Happily Signs The Deal

To complete the moment, the friends asked the groom to sign the oversized card — which he did, smiling and without hesitation. Each vow was read by a different friend, suggesting the entire group had carefully rehearsed the act in advance.

Social Media Reacts

Since its upload, the video has racked up over 2.7 million views. Captioned, ‘Send this reel to your best friend’, it’s garnered thousands of likes and comments, many filled with laughter and light sarcasm.

Viewers quipped, “These are the vows I had to take too” and “Transfer the land in their name but don’t sign things like this”. Another user joked, “Where have the boys gone? The groom’s been left alone on the battlefield, friend!”

While the tone of the video is humorous, it’s also sparked conversation about modern marriage dynamics and the evolving role of tradition in weddings — proving once again that social media has a way of turning even solemn ceremonies into viral moments of levity.
