A viral character certificate from Rajasthan, calling a man “quarrelsome” and “abusive”, has amused social media users and sparked debate
This candid assessment, bearing the official seal and signature, has raised eyebrows online, not just for its harshness, but for its possible personal undertones. (News18)
In India, a character certificate is often required for official purposes, such as securing government jobs or completing administrative formalities. These certificates are typically issued by local authorities such as ward councillors or village Sarpanches, and usually contain favourable statements attesting to an individual’s conduct and reliability.
However, a recent case from Rajasthan has turned this routine procedure into a viral sensation.
A Certificate That Sparked Laughter — And Concern
A photo of an unusually blunt character certificate has surfaced on social media, originally posted by the Instagram account @santa_banta_jokes. While the authenticity of the certificate remains uncertain, its detailed formatting and official stamps suggest it could indeed be genuine.
The certificate in question was issued to Gyan Chandra Bairwa, a resident of Jaisinghpura village in Dausa district, Rajasthan, and signed by the village Sarpanch on July 20, 2019.
What sets it apart is the content:
“I know him very well. He is a quarrelsome person. Abusing is his nature.”
This candid assessment, bearing the official seal and signature, has raised eyebrows online, not just for its harshness, but for its possible personal undertones.
Public Reaction Online
The post has amassed over 1,000 likes and numerous comments. While many users found it hilarious, others speculated on the relationship between the Sarpanch and Gyan Chandra.
One user commented: “This is what happens when your best mate becomes Sarpanch” while another remarked, “Finally, an honest character certificate!”
Several users appreciated the rarity of such honesty in official documents, joking that this was a “tested and proven” character certificate — unlike the generic, overly positive ones typically issued.
Although the reason behind the negative remarks remains unclear, it’s evident that this certificate may have complicated Gyan Chandra’s official matters. Whether issued in jest, spite, or genuine concern, it underscores how a single official document can have far-reaching effects — and occasionally, go viral for all the wrong reasons.
