Heavy overnight downpours in Bengaluru triggered waterlogging in several low-lying regions, affecting daily life in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected more showers for October 22. Following the incessant rains, Bengaluru’s Silk Board junction, already infamous for its frequent and protracted traffic jams, turned into a nightmare for motorists who had to navigate flooded roads.

Social media users shared videos of the flooded busy junction, with many referring to the area as a river. “Earlier, we used to complain about the never-ending traffic jams at Silk Board, but now, under the Brand Bengaluru scheme, we’ve got a new addition—a river flowing right through Silk Board every time it rains!” a user on X (Formally Twitter) shared a video and said.

“What was once known for its frustrating traffic has now turned into a waterlogged mess. From now on, citizens might as well consider buying boats or ships to navigate across the Silk Board area,” the post further adds.

“Silk board this morning at 6 am,” shared a user on X.

The entire stretch from Eijipura to Marathahalli, Kengeri, and Sarjapur Road were reportedly among the other flooded parts of the city.

The rains are expected to continue until October 24. The highest temperatures will be about 28 degrees Celsius, while the lowest will be around 20 degrees, reports add.

Bengaluru is expected to have mostly cloudy skies with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms in the upcoming days, according to IMD. Light rain is predicted for October 22, followed by more on October 23 and 24. According to the forecast, locals should get ready for a week of rainy weather and take the appropriate safety and travel precautions.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police warned commuters about waterlogging and slow-moving traffic in several parts of the city due to the heavy rains that have been pelting the city. Rainwater accumulation affects some important roads, causing major interruptions.
