Gill scores century vs England — Joins exclusive list of Indians to score hundreds in first two Tests as captain


Shubman Gill completed his seventh hundred and second as India’s Test captain during the second match against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday.

With his second century as captain, Gill becomes the fourth player to score tons in the first two matches since joining the helm.

He now joins the list consisting of Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, and Virat Kohli.

Gill is also the fifth Indian to score a century at Edgbaston after Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Vijay Hazare – 164* vs England (Delhi, 1951); 155 vs England (Brabourne, 1951)

Sunil Gavaskar – 116 vs New Zealand (Auckland, 1976); 205 vs West Indies (Wankhede, 1978)

Virat Kohli – 115 and 141 vs Australia (Adelaide, 2014); 147 vs Australia (Sydney, 2015)

Shubman Gill – 147 vs England (Leeds, 2025); 104* vs England (Birmingham, 2025)
