From trekking to resort, why Nepal became the first choice of Indian tourists

Indian Tourists Visit in Nepal: Nepal, once only considered to be the choice of trekkers, is emerging as a new ‘Luxian Adventure Destination’ for Indian tourists today. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, this country has now become not just a medium of religious or thrilling journey, but has become a exchange site for experiences like comfortable resorts, destination wedding and ‘soft adventure’. Interestingly, people of states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi are now putting Nepal on the top of their holiday list and there are many special reasons behind it. Let’s know why Nepal is becoming the favorite international destination of Indians.

Let me tell you, between January to May 2025, the number of Indian tourists traveling to Nepal has the highest number of Indian tourists. Out of a total of 5.01 lakh tourists, 1.15 lakhs i.e. about 23 percent tourists have reached Nepal from India. Earlier in the year 2024, India remained the largest tourism market for Nepal, when a total of 11.47 lakh tourists reached Nepal throughout the year, out of which 3.17 lakh were Indians. This figure was the highest compared to 2023.

Nepal is going for peace and peace

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, this growth is especially due to the demand of increasing ‘travel’ and ‘adventure’ in Indian tourists. Tourists from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi are now preferring to stop the Himalayan litigants after a few hours of trekking in Nepal. One such popular destination is the name, from where the view of the Annapurna ranges is seen.

Nepal’s luxury hotels are liking people

The increasing number of luxury hotels in Nepal is also a big reason behind this change. According to the data received from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of the Government of Nepal, between 2023 and October 2024, the number of hotels across the country increased by 17.6 percent, while non-star hotels have registered an increase of 10.5 percent.

Popular for destination wedding

Nepal is becoming popular not only even for a visit between Indians and overseas Indians. Especially cities bordering India like Birganj, Nepalganj Jhapa, are becoming increasingly favorite for wedding and family events at these places. There is a good connectivity to India on one side behind the popularity of these places, on the other hand there is increasing availability of luxury hotels and resorts.
