South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma ruled out of two-Test series against Zimbabwe

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, who recently led the Proteas to the World Test Championship (WTC) title against Australia, has been ruled out of the side’s upcoming two-Test series against Zimbabwe.

“Proteas Men’s Test captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain,” a statement on South Africa’s X account read.

Bavuma sustained the injury while batting during South Africa’s second innings on day three of the WTC Final against Australia at Lord’s Cricket Ground. “He is set to undergo further scans to assess the extent of the injury,” the statement further read.

Keshav Maharaj will captain the side in Bavuma’s absence, Cricket South Africa announced.

Bavuma’s fighting 66 off 134 balls, and a massive 147-run stand with opener Aiden Markram, helped South Africa clinch its first ICC trophy in 27 years.

The first Test between South Africa and Zimbabwe will be played from June 28 onwards while the second match will kick off on July 6. Both matches will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Zimbabwe’s Bulawayo.
