In this viral clip, a man is seen using his Apple AirPods case, not to store his expensive earbuds, but to keep tobacco. Seriously! We are not joking. The video shows him opening the sleek white AirPods charging case. But instead of pulling out the usual AirPods, he takes out a pinch of tobacco and hands it to his friend. The two of them then prepare khaini, a type of chewing tobacco. It is not clear where the video was shot, but several reports suggest it may have been filmed in Bihar.
Since being shared online, the video has garnered more than a million views. People can’t help but laugh at the sheer level of desi innovation on display.
One user commented, “Tobacco is more important than AirPods.”
Another said, “BIHAR: Beyond Intelligence of Human and Robots.”
“Apple be like ye humse bhi advance h (Apple be like: They are more advanced than us),” someone jokingly wrote. While another said, “Tim Cook shocked.”
A viewer humourously said, “Ye technology India se bahar nahi jaani chahiye (This technology should not go out of India).”

And of course, there was the evergreen comment that is always there under almost every desi viral video: “India is not for beginners.”
While this AirPods jugaad may be unusual, it’s not the first time the device has sparked headlines. Last year, Apple introduced an update for the AirPods Pro 2 that enabled them to function like hearing aids, a feature designed to assist the over one billion people worldwide who suffer from hearing loss, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). When a man from Bengaluru learned about this, he purchased the AirPods for his grandmother. However, the feature wasn’t available in India. With the help of friends, he managed to trick the iOS system into activating the hearing aid functionality.
