Zepto is facing serious backlash after reports of poor storage conditions at one of its warehouses in Maharashtra led to the suspension of its license. Adding to the controversy, a woman recently shared a disturbing video online, showing spoiled food she allegedly received from the company. In the video, she opens a boiled egg with an unusual taste and discovers black liquid inside. She also reveals a watermelon infested with white worms. This latest complaint comes amid growing concerns over Zepto’s food safety standards, with many users demanding stricter hygiene protocols and tighter quality control measures.
Taking to Instagram, the woman wrote, “Zepto, how is this acceptable? Every single time, you either send raw fruits or rotten ones. I’ve learned my lesson and won’t order from you anymore. But stop scamming people. Issuing a refund isn’t enough focus on the quality, bro, we end up paying more because of you.”
In the floating text on the video, she added, “Stop ordering fruits and eggs from Zepto. Thankfully, I recorded it warna yeh full confidence me bolte hai ‘it passed quality check’.”
Soon after the video started circulating on the Internet, the e-commerce platform was quick to respond. They wrote, “We understand your concern and want to make this right. At Zepto, we take quality seriously, and we regret any inconvenience caused if this product didn’t meet your expectations. Please DM us your order details so we can address this promptly at Zepto speed.”
Even though the company responded quickly, people still criticised them, and many even shared their bad experiences.

Another shared, “Big Basket and Blinkit have always worked great for me. The quality and standard are not compromised, but with Zepto, I did face issues twice. If so many are raising complaints, I am sure there’s a bigger issue being overlooked. Hope they get better with sourcing vendors and QC, or else they are going to lose a massive number of customers.”
“I ordered fresh bread, got bread expiring today. Customer care: ‘But it’s still safe to eat.’ Bro, I asked for fresh, not a farewell party for the loaf. If I wanted to eat it on its last breath, I would’ve gone dumpster diving. Fresh means days to go, not hours left. Get it together. Sending me something that’s on its final day isn’t service, it’s just low-key dumping old stock on customers,” a comment read.
One more added, “Why would you even buy such things online when they’re freshly available in the market? At least the people who work so hard spend an entire day in the shop or roadside get some wage for their hard work when you buy from them, instead of such companies that are already earning well?”
The incident comes just days after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspected Zepto’s warehouse in Dharavi, Maharashtra. During the visit, the officials found serious problems and clear violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act. As a result, they suspended the food business licence of that warehouse. The FDA also took action at other locations. Notices were sent to the Bhiwandi and Bandra East facilities, warning them about similar issues. At the Borivali centre, the licence was also suspended due to poor food safety conditions.
