Eating with hands is a common practice in many cultures. People in India often have a preference for eating with their hands, especially when enjoying certain dishes like rice and curries.
While knives and forks are used for other types of food, the practice of using hands for some dishes is a cultural tradition. But the age-old debate of how to best enjoy food has been reignited, this time fueled by a viral Instagram video from Commander Naveen Pandita. Breaking away from the traditional practice of eating with hands, the naval aviator shared his way of eating a masala dosa. Guess what? He was seen eating the dosa with a fork and knife, sparking a wave of reactions across the internet.
The video comes with an overlay text “Masala Dosa being murdered by fork and knife! Old fauji habits die hard!” In the reel, Commander Pandita demonstrates his unique approach to eating masala dosa. He carefully folds the crispy crepe from all corners and cuts it into neat slices using a fork and knife. Then he pours the chutneys on his plate and delicately dips a piece into coconut chutney using his fork.
While Commander Pandita seemingly shared the ” old fauji habit” of eating the dish, the unconventional idea left many horrified, sparking a flurry of humorous reactions from viewers. His video, which has garnered over 4.3 million views, has undoubtedly stirred a lighthearted debate about culinary traditions and personal preferences.
“Sir FIR has been lodged against you in Chennai,” quipped a user.
Another playfully pointed out the advantage of eating dosa with cutlery, writing, “The real skill is not getting any food splashes on the white shirt.”
“As a type, a personality with borderline OCD, this video made me so satisfied!” said a user.
An account remarked, “He is not eating Dosa, its thin savoury crepe stuffed with smashed potato and served with a side of condiments/relish.”
“So true …You can leave Fauj, but Fauj never leaves you,” an individual posted.
A user commented, “If you don’t nod your head after the first bite, I’ll assume your taste buds are on strike.”
However, not everyone was taken aback. “This is the skill everyone should learn… It’s called neat eating. Requesting you to make a burger video,” a user remarked.
