The next Chief Justice of the country, BR Gawai, took a law degree from which college?

Justice BR Gawai will be the next Chief Justice of the country. President Draupadi Murmu Has approved his name. Earlier, his name was recommended by the current Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna. Let’s know from where he has taken degrees.

Born on 24 November 1960 in Amravati, Maharashtra, Justice Gawai completed his BA and LLB from Nagpur University. Gawai, who came from an ordinary family, made education his ladder and made his own identity in the legal world.

Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, while sharing information on the social media platform X, said that Justice BR. Gawai has been appointed under the rights conferred under the Constitution of India. He is currently working as a judge in the Supreme Court and will take over the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from 14 May 2025.

In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Judge of the Supreme Court of India as the Chief Justice of India with effect from 14th May, 2025.

According to media reports, Justice BR Gavai started practicing in 1985 and in a few years, Nagpur bench and Bombay High Court were recognized with their ability. He was a permanent lawyer for several municipal corporations including Amravati University and later also served as a government lawyer and public prosecutor.

Supreme Court judge made in 2019

On 14 November 2003, he was appointed Additional Judge in the Bombay High Court and in 2005 he became a permanent judge. After this, he presided over various matters in Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Panaji benches. On 24 May 2019, he was made a judge of the Supreme Court.
