How far can you go for love? A Chinese man has been garnering attention for his weekly travel back to his hometown all the way from Australia. Xu Guangli commuted between his place in Shandong province, China and Melbourne, Australia for the last three months. Wondering why? The 28-year-old student continued the journey for 11 weeks only to attend a single weekly class and spend time with his girlfriend.

Xu Guangli, who has been pursuing a master’s degree in arts management at RMIT University, undertook the inter-country weekly travel between August and October. He decided to make the weekly journey after his girlfriend had returned to China following completion of her studies in Australia.

This wasn’t all! You would be surprised to know that each round trip took Xu Guangli three days. But he never backed down. He used to start at 7 am from his home in Dezhou and commute to Jinan to board a flight. Following a layover, Xu Guangli reached Melbourne the next day. After attending his class the same day, the Chinese man returned home on the third day.

Speaking to Dazhong Daily, Xu Guangli mentioned, “It was my last semester, and I only needed one class to meet the graduation requirements.” He further said, “More importantly, my girlfriend had returned to China, and life in Melbourne on my own was lonely.”

Xu Guangli, who studied in Australia for eight years, completed his course in October. In one of his videos posted on social media, the man documented his journey. According to the South China Morning Post, Xu Guangli broke down the cost of each trip, totalling 6,700 yuan, which included a return flight ticket, taxi fares and meals.

The man saved money by staying at his friend’s residence during his one-night Melbourne stay each week. “I could have rented a flat in Melbourne for 10,000 yuan a month, but the time and money spent were worthwhile for love,” he added.
