An unusual incident near the Jagannath Temple in Puri has recently caught the Internet’s attention, sparking various theories and discussions. In a surprising turn of events, an eagle was seen carrying away a piece of cloth resembling the sacred flags of the temple. The video capturing this curious scene has since gone viral on social media, leaving devotees and locals intrigued.
In the viral video, the eagle can be seen circling the Srimandir while holding the flag-like cloth before swiftly flying towards the sea and disappearing from view. According to Odisha TV, the incident occurred on Saturday evening around 5 PM, coinciding with a brief storm triggered by a Nor’wester in the coastal city. Eyewitnesses reported that the bird initially flew towards the west door of the temple before heading towards the ocean and vanishing.
Despite the striking resemblance to the temple flag, it has not yet been confirmed whether the cloth actually belonged to the Jagannath Temple or was simply an ordinary piece. The mysterious incident, however, has sparked a flurry of discussions online, with various theories circulating. A social media user wrote, “When an eagle carried away the sacred flag from Jagannath Temple, it wasn’t theft—it was a celestial message. As if Garuda himself rose to the heavens with Lord Jagannath’s blessings. A sign of divine intervention, renewal, and powerful change. A better era is coming. Trust. Pray. Evolve. Guruda is guarding the flag, and Lord Jagannath’s energy is expanding globally — the flag flying into the skies as a metaphor for spreading His name and message worldwide.”
Another added, “Of course, the great good is going to happen. Birds are of great significance and good in Hindu textbooks.”
While many believe the incident signals a positive omen, others have suggested that it could forewarn an impending threat. One user remarked, “Well, nobody’s aware of its reason. Most believe it’s a bad omen indicating an impending disaster. The best we can do is keep spreading and practising ‘Dharma’ as much as possible,” while another commented, “Maybe it’s a warning of something ghastly about to happen.”
With such comments circulating online and the video gaining momentum, the temple authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
