Illegal Immigration: US President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday (18 November 2024) that his administration will declare a national emergency and use military forces against immigrants living in the country illegally and deporting them.
Actually, Donald Trump has confirmed this while reacting to a person’s post on X. While posting on X, a person had written that there are reports, the Trump administration is preparing to impose national emergency in America and expel a large number of infiltrators through the army.
Following the announcement, Trump’s border security chief Tom Homan warned that Democratic-run states that have refused to cooperate in the deportation campaign should “get out of our way.”
Millions of immigrants will move out of America
Tom Homan said that his administration will first deport those 4 lakh 25 thousand illegal immigrants. These are the figures against whom there are criminal records. He also said that there are millions of eligible refugees and immigrants who have been pushed back by the influx of illegal immigrants. Apart from this, he made it clear that all migrants will get a chance to follow the due process prescribed in the law. If they lose the legal battle they will be sent back to their countries. In a separate interview, Homan also said that “legal immigrants are completely safe.”
Impact on Native American workers
Homan shared his personal experiences with border security, saying that Border Patrol agents are now seen as simply acting as “travel agents” rather than stopping illegal immigrants. They send illegal immigrants into the US without any restrictions, provide them with free air tickets, hotels, and health care facilities, while millions of American citizens are facing economic crisis. The Trump administration is focused on this and they are including it among their major priorities.
Economic impact and labor crisis
Mass deportation of illegal immigrants could have a profound impact on the US economy. The American Immigration Council (AIC) says this move could create a serious labor crisis in key industries, especially construction, agriculture and hospitality sectors. According to the report, about 14 percent of workers in the construction industry are illegal immigrants. Removing these workers could have a serious impact on construction projects across the country, affecting the jobs of many American citizens.
impact on human resources
An October 2024 study by AIC also reported that mass deportations could reduce America’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 4.2 to 6.8 percent. Along with this, the US government will also have to face a huge reduction in tax revenue. In 2022, illegal immigrants contributed $46.8 billion in federal taxes and $29.3 billion in state and local taxes.
