The Bengaluru airport has allegedly taken off Hindi from all its signboards, leaving the airport to just Kannada and English, netizens have claimed.
The move has sparked a debate on social media.
Multiple videos widely shared on X claimed to show sign boards at the Bengaluru airport displaying flight timings in English and Kannada.
One of the videos showed flight arrivals and departures in English and Kannada. The video, by the author, was captioned, “Kannadigas are resisting Hindi imposition.”
Another video showed Kannada displayed at one of the terminal gates at the airport.
In the comments section, a user wrote, “If you have guts, remove Urdu from Karnataka too.”
“Do you think only those who know English and Kannada visit Bengaluru? Not having Hindi at metro station is understandable, but it has to be there at airport and railway station,” another social media user opined.
“But isn’t this just adding inconvenience to the folks who can neither understand English nor Kannada?” a third one asked.
Meanwhile, according to a report with IndiaTV news, authorities at the Bengaluru airport said there has been no change in the flight information display system.
