The two -year -old girl is considered to be Kumari, three years old, Kalyani for four years, Rohini for five years, Kalika of six years, seven years old, Chandika, eight years old, eight -year -old, Shambhavi, Nine -year -old is considered to be Durga and ten year old girl is considered to be the form of Subhadra.

In religious texts, three to ten -year -old girls have been called the form of true power. It is also mentioned in Durga Saptashati that a girl should be worshiped before worshiping Maa Durga, because these women are a symbol of power and creation. Therefore, by worshiping the girl in Navratri, giving her respect to her brings the blessings of Mother Durga and there is happiness and prosperity in the family.

Method of Kanya Pujan Vidhi)

  • Invite girls – For the worship of Kumari on the day of Mahashtami or Navami of Navratri, invite girls respectfully a day in advance.
  • Respect and welcome – When girls come, sit them with love and welcome them by showering flowers.
  • Wear holy baths and clothes – First bathe Kumari with holy water and then wear it beautiful red chunari.
  • put make up – Decorate the girls with flowers and jewels. Apply vermilion tilak on the forehead and feet.
  • Worship and chant –
    Recite the mantra “Om Kaumaryai Namah” and perform the Panchopachar Puja.

  • Perform the foot -rash and tilak – After the meal, wash the feet of the girls and duly tilak kumkum.
