UP’s Deoria Police have arrested one suspect in the case, while efforts to track down the other are ongoing.

A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria was stripped naked before being brutally beaten with a belt over alleged mobile theft. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. It was initially shared as an Instagram Story for close friends by a man identified as Priyanshu Singh.

The now-viral video also has a text in hindi. It reads, “Waapas aa rahe hain apne andaaz me, log bhool gae hain hamein (we are coming back in our style; People have forgotten us).

It opens to show the victim, half-naked, lying face down on a sofa while another man sits on his face. As the video goes on, another man can be seen mercilessly whipping him with a belt while simultaneously recording the assault on his phone.

When the victim tries to pull up his pants, the man sitting on top of him forcefully pushes his hand down while the other continues to beat him.

After the video of the assault went viral on social media, police arrested one person and are actively searching for the other.

“In connection with the case, one person, Rohit Srivastava, son of Ashok Lal Srivastava, resident of Hariya Ward Number 5, Salempur, Deoria, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated,” said Deoria Police.

They added, “Another person, Priyanshu Singh, son of Dhananjay Singh, resident of Dehri, Mail police station area, has been identified and is being searched for. Further legal proceedings are underway.”
