An old newspaper found in a house revealed a horrifying truth, prompting the residents to flee overnight. In a chilling tale shared on social media, a woman recounted her experience of living in an old house where she stumbled upon a clue suggesting a past murder.
The woman, posting on Reddit, explained that she and her friends resided in a house dating back to the 1870s. During their time there, they discovered an old newspaper from 1890 beneath the floorboards.
The front page featured a haunting article about a murderer’s hanging, sending shivers down their spines. This discovery, the woman admitted, was unsettling, hinting at a potential murder within the very walls they inhabited. Adding to their unease, the residents often heard unexplained noises, even when the house was empty. Footsteps echoed up and down the stairs and through the hall, accompanied by fleeting shadows.
The woman vividly recalled her first night alone in the house. “I was alone in the house that night and suddenly the door of the old basement closed automatically. That door was in the veranda, where even a gust of wind could not reach,” she said.
However, the most terrifying incident occurred when her friend encountered a tall figure at her bedroom door, prompting their immediate and unquestioning flight.
Detailing the nightmare, the woman said, “There was a small hall between my room and my friend’s room. Our rooms did not have doors. One morning in the kitchen, my friend asked if there was anyone at my house last night? I said no, I was alone. Then she told me that she saw a tall man standing at my door all night.”
According to the woman, the house underwent renovations a few years prior, transforming it into a luxurious abode. Whether the new owners experienced any similar unsettling events remains unknown.
Now residing in an 1891 Victorian house with her family, the woman admits that the previous house’s haunting memories linger, despite the absence of any paranormal activity in their current home. The location of this new house, however, was not disclosed.
The woman’s post prompted another user to share a similar experience. While working in an old farmhouse, he uncovered old news clippings detailing a murder that had taken place there. The owners had been killed by a farmhand who buried their bodies in the courtyard. The perpetrator was eventually apprehended and brought to justice.
