
Pension for gig workers: The government is preparing to start a social security contribution system for Gig workers. Under this, the platforms working these workers will have to cut a part of their payment and submit it to the Employee Pension Scheme. On this amount, the government can also give contribution to 3-4 percent.
They will benefit from this government scheme
According to a report by the Times of India, this initiative of the government will not only get the benefit of cab drivers or food delivery partners, but also in this scheme, software professionals and other gig economy workers will also be covered. The provision of social security for Gig Workers was included in the labor codes launched for a few years. However, they have not been implemented yet. In such a situation, seeing that all the platforms they work on, a part of the payment given to them can be cut and submitted to the Employees Provident Fund Organization, the government is thinking about starting it.
Preparation to start the initiative as soon as possible
Speaking to the Economic Times on this, a senior official of the Ministry of Labor said, “The details related to it have finalized, it is expected that it will be started as soon as possible.” He further said that the central government is carrying forward the Labor Criminals in collaboration with the states, which is necessary for any business.
What are gig workers
Employees working on online platforms are called Gig workers. These are not permanent employees but work as a freelancer, so like their Permanent Employee, the company does not pay salary or allowances to them. They only get money for their work. In our country, online food delivery partners, delivery of e-commerce goods work as driver Gig workers.
