UPSC recruitment for the lowest number of posts in four years, know how many posts there are and how to apply.


Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for Civil Services Examination 2025. Due to this, UPSC has invited applications for fewer seats in the last four years. UPSC Civil Services Prelims exam will be held on 25 May 2025. The online application process has started from today (22 January 2025) and will continue till 11 February 2025. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of UPSC upsc.gov.in.

UPSC vacancy reduced in last three years

According to the notification issued by UPSC, about 979 posts will be filled under this recruitment process. Of these, 38 posts are reserved for physically handicapped (PwBD) candidates. This time there has been a decrease of 77 posts as compared to last year. Recruitment was conducted for 1056 posts in the year 2024. In 2023, UPSC had announced 1,105 vacancies, while in 2022 the number was 1,011 and in 2021, 712. Apart from the Civil Services Examination, UPSC has also announced 150 posts for the Indian Forest Service (IFS).

So many posts are reserved in benchmark disability category.

Under this examination, a total of 38 posts are reserved for benchmark disability category. Out of these, 12 posts are for Blind and Low Vision candidates, 7 posts are for Deaf and Hard of Hearing candidates, 10 posts are for Physically Handicapped candidates including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack etc. Including sufferers and people with muscle weakness. Apart from this, 9 posts are for candidates who have more than one disability.

Know who can apply

The applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Final-year students can also apply, but if they pass the Prelims, they will have to submit the certificate of their graduation degree before the Mains exam. Apart from this, the age of the applicant should be minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years as on 01 August 2025. However, reserved category candidates are given age relaxation. After this, click on the link given for the application, which will open a new page. If you are taking the exam for the first time, you will have to register by filling the required information. After this, log in using the generated credentials. Then, fill the application form with all the required information, deposit the fees and finally click on submit.
