Thalassophobia is an intense and persistent fear of deep bodies of water, such as the ocean, lakes, or seas. If you are thalassophobic, you might want to skip reading what happened with an Italian tourist in the waters of Seychelles.
Federico Cola, a resident of Milan in Italy, was recently holidaying in The Seychelles. During a swim in the sea, Cola suddenly felt his leg being pulled downwards, causing him to go underneath. As he regained his composure and positioned himself vertically to assess the situation, he realised an octopus had grabbed him.
Federico shared the video on Instagram on January 2, 2025, where he can be seen caught in the grip of the octopus. The octopus had wrapped one of its tentacles around his leg. However, instead of panicking or harming the creature, Federico remained calm. He carefully picked up the octopus in his hands, surprising everyone with his reaction.
Rather than pushing it away, Cola held the octopus gently, allowed it to climb on his back, and even spent a few moments admiring it. Eventually, he returned the octopus to the sea unharmed.
The video has gone viral, amassing over 30 million views, with many people commenting on the man’s calmness and compassion.
One user noted that octopuses are known to be loyal, suggesting that if Federico Cola swims in the same spot again, the octopus might return to show affection. Another said they would have screamed in fear if faced with a similar experience.
