Terrorists were earlier given death sentence

Let us inform that on December 18, 2024, Bangladesh High Court has commuted the death sentence of ULFA I Chief Paresh Barua, former military and intelligence officers Akbar Hussain, Liaqat Hussain, Hafizur Rahman and Shahabuddin to life imprisonment on charges of arms smuggling in Northeast India. At the same time, while hearing the appeals filed related to reduction of life imprisonment, High Court Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Nasreen Akhtar changed the life imprisonment of ULFA I Chief Paresh Baruah to 14 years imprisonment. Gave a decision to reduce the life imprisonment of other terrorists to 10 years.

A large quantity of weapons were found with the terrorists

In April 2004, a large quantity of weapons were recovered from the terrorists. Some influential people had made efforts to safely transport it to ULFA bases in North-East India. Among the weapons seized from the terrorists, more than 27 thousand grenades, 150 rocket launchers, more than 11 lakh ammunition, 1100 sub-machine guns and 11.41 million bullets were recovered.
