Alok Chatterjee Death: Well-known theater actor and late actor Irrfan Khan’s National School of Drama batchmate Alok Chatterjee is no more. The famous actor breathed his last at around 11 pm on Monday night. Alok Chatterjee’s health was said to be bad for a long time and many of his internal organs had stopped working due to which he died.
Swanand Kirkire expressed grief over the demise of Alok
There has been a wave of mourning in the industry due to the demise of Alok Chatterjee. Many fans and celebs are expressing grief over the death of the actor. Famous lyricist Swanand Krikire has shared a post on his social media handle condoling the demise of his friend Alok. Sharing a picture of the late actor, she wrote her message in Hindi, “Alok Chatterjee.. a brilliant actor gone! He was Irrfan’s batchmate in NSD. If Irrfan was Kalidas, Alok Chatterjee was the opposite! Went to meet his Kalidas.” May your soul rest in peace, Alok Bhai!”
Alok’s last rites will be performed today afternoon.
Alok Chatterjee was close to Irrfan Khan
Let us tell you that Alok was a close friend of Irrfan Khan. Both were batchmates at the prestigious National School of Drama from 1984 to 1987. Alok and Irrfan played the main lead roles in many plays for almost three years. Alok Chatterjee was also honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Had directed many famous plays
Alok Chatterjee was the former director of Madhya Pradesh School of Drama or MPSD and also a gold medalist in NSD. Alok was a resident of Damoh, Madhya Pradesh and had worked in many popular plays. He also wrote William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In addition to this, he also directed and acted in Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman.
‘Theatre is in my blood’
In one of his old interviews, Alok had said that he only wants to do drama. He had said, “I went to Delhi to become a performer. If I wanted to do films, I would have gone to FTII, Pune. I am living my life for theatre. He had said that I have studied from NSD, due to which “Theater is in my blood, I am not a marketable painter.”
