Zerodha, an online brokerage company, shed light on the importance of work-life balance in a recent social media post. In this era of rat race, many corporate employees find it difficult to scoop out family time from their busy schedules. It not only takes a toll on their mental health but also affects their lifestyle. Zerodha, in their Instagram post, underlined why people should prioritise their well-being over work pressure.
The stock broking firm, co-founded by brothers Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, dropped a graphical representation of how much people spend on their work, compared to their family members. “If the realisation hasn’t hit you yet, swipe through again work-life balance, explore page, career, office, family,” Zerodha wrote in the caption.
Many corporate employees could relate to the post. The first slide represents “time spent with dad” which gradually lowers after the age of 40. According to Zerodha, most people get a pet at the age of 20 and the bond lasts only until the person reaches mid-thirties.
The post also highlights the importance of having a life partner. The responsibility towards parents can never be denied but work pressure can affect the relationship. The twist comes in the last slide which denotes “time spent with co-workers”. The graph goes at around the age of 20 and remains almost the same for the rest of life.
The Instagram post by Zerodha sparked an online debate about work-life balance with users sharing their personal experiences. One blamed capitalism for the modern work culture and regretted that “we trade out time for paychecks sharing life more with coworkers than with the ones we love.”
Another user feels “everything comes with its own opportunity cost.” A person quipped, “Remote workers are like we are not the same bro.” “Not relevant at all if you are in a family business,” shared an individual.
Thanking Zerodha for the valuable insights, a user said, “As a person who suffered burnout and depression not just due to a screwed up work-life balance but also a narcissistic boss, this is a very healthy sign of your culture. A very good company to join, I endorse you. This isn’t the first time you have made such comments.”
