Mohammed Yunus Appeal : The opposition of Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, against India has been continuously increasing. Mohammad Yunus has held a meeting with diplomats from European countries amid tension between the two countries. Yunus has urged diplomats to transfer visa setters for people of Bangladesh from Delhi to Dhaka or any other neighboring country. This statement of Mohammad Yunus comes a few days after media reports surfaced which said that Bangladesh is considering sources other than India for the import of its staple food items like potatoes and onions.
Yunus made this appeal to European diplomats
Mohammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, held a meeting with diplomats from European countries at his office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. More than 19 diplomats posted in both Dhaka and New Delhi were present in this meeting. During this, he blamed India’s visa restrictions for increasing demand.
Appeal to transfer visa center to Dhaka or nearby countries
“Transferring visa offices to Dhaka or a nearby country will benefit both Bangladesh and the EU,” Mohammad Yunus told diplomats. Dhaka officials also cited the example of Bulgaria, which has already transferred its visa centers for Bangladeshis to Indonesia and Vietnam, Dhaka Tribune reported.
Responding to Yunus’ request, the diplomats said they supported Dhaka’s reform initiatives and pledged their commitment to advise and assist in building a new Bangladesh.
