‘Stay in your homes, don’t go out’, why did the Yunus government of Bangladesh make this appeal to the people?


Climate Change: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has issued an advisory today, Tuesday (December 10, 2024), urging people to wear masks when stepping out of the house, while “vulnerable persons” have been requested to wear masks only if necessary. Leave the house only when work is done.

Issuing the advisory, the ministry said the air quality in Dhaka and its surrounding areas has deteriorated to unhealthy and sometimes dangerous levels (AQI above 250), The Daily Star reported. “In this situation, the public is advised to wear masks while going out, while sensitive persons (people with breathing problems, allergies and other respiratory issues) are requested to wear masks,” the minister said in a release. Go out only when absolutely necessary.”

This appeal is being made to Bangladeshi citizens

For public information, air quality data is regularly updated on the website of the Department of Environment. In the advisory, citizens were urged to keep an eye on this information and take necessary precautions accordingly. Apart from this, everyone was requested to contribute in air pollution control from their respective posts.

The general public is being advised to adopt these measures

The ministry has advised brick kiln and factory owners as well as the general public to adopt certain measures, which include avoiding burning of solid waste, installing proper fencing and covers at construction sites, keeping construction materials covered, ensuring that These include ensuring that trucks or lorries carrying construction material are fully covered, spraying water around construction areas at least twice a day and avoiding plying of old and smoke-emitting vehicles on the roads.
