‘No intention of limiting the dollar’, Jaishankar clarifies India’s stand on Trump’s warning

S Jaishankar On Dollarization: India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar shared his views on ‘de-dollarization’ and global diplomacy at the Doha Forum on Saturday (7 December 2024). He said that India has never been in favor of reducing dependence on the US dollar. This comment was made in the context of the BRICS countries considering a common currency and the recent warning from former US President Donald Trump. Jaishankar made it clear that at present there is no proposal on BRICS currency and the stance of BRICS countries is not the same on this issue.

Jaishankar said that he did not clarify the reasons behind Trump’s remarks, but India has always taken the stand that it is not a supporter of ‘de-dollarization’. He said that there are differences on this issue among the BRICS countries and this is not a new proposal. Along with this, he also said that every country has its own interests and they can agree and disagree on many issues.

Jaishankar further said that India’s approach is towards more innovative and participatory diplomacy. He also said that now countries should show courage to sideline the Western powers. According to him, in view of the ongoing conflicts in the world, there is a need for diplomats to adopt a new strategy and India is showing its leadership in this direction.

The reality of the world is quite complex – S Jaishankar

Sharing his views at the Doha Forum, Jaishankar said that the reality of this world is very complex and nuanced. He said that every country adopts its strategy on the international platform according to its national interests and sometimes the same country works in different combinations on different issues.
