’17 years old is not young’, this line started 52 years before this line

Raj Kapoor’s most ambitious dream was broken. ‘My name Joker’, which had created a mountain of expectations, the mind had fallen. The Great Show Man was drowned in Aakanth’s loan. Home and R.K. Had to mortgage even the studio. He raised his favorite pastime in debt burden, deep disappointment and depression.

It was a comic book. The name was Archie. While reading this, his eyes were stuck on a dialogue, and he was, “Seventeen years of age, we have our own life, and we realize it.” What happened after this, he set a new example bypassing the customs.

This entire story is mentioned in KA Abbas’s book Bobby-The Complete Story. Is also justified. A film that changed the direction and condition of cinema, why not write a book on it? That too at the hands of the person who has been a part of that history!

How did Rishi Kapoor become the hero of ‘Bobby’

A sentence of Archie Comics ’17 is no age ‘shook Raj Saheb inside. Raj Kapoor picked up the car and reached the office of his trusted writer ‘Khwaja Ahmed Abbas’ in Juhu. On the way, Abbas Saheb’s partner and co-writer V.P. Sathe also joined him.

In that journey from Dionar to Juhu, Raj Kapoor had created the entire scene in his mind. Had had decided to give the character of Hero to his son Chintu (Rishi Kapoor). The same son whose ‘Mera Naam Joker’ was well appreciated.

The afternoon of 1972 became a sweet memory and settled in everyone’s hearts. Kapoor, Abbas and Sathe together sowed Bobby’s seeds. The film based on teenage love touched an entire generation with innocence, simplicity and unmatched music.

‘Bobby’ became an example

When ‘Bobby’ was released on 28 September 1973, it became an example. The beginning of the seventies was tremendous. Iqbal of Indian cinema was elevated. Rajesh Khanna was dominated as a romantic hero by giving 15 hits, as well as Dev Anand’s ‘Hare Ram Hare Krishna’ (1971) showed hippie and drug culture well, in the meantime, Prakash Mehra’s ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) made the Hindi film industry aware of ‘Angry Young Man’.

In a similar era, Raj Kapoor introduced ‘Bobby’ on a teenage age innocent rebellion, where Rishi Kapoor became the face of the younger generation dreams. Breaking the traditions in the film, Raj Kapoor gave a modern look to fourteen -year -old teenager Dimple Kapadia. Like the characters adorned on the pages of Archie Comics, there was an emphasis of shorts, swimsuits, maxi gowns, polka dots and bell-boatms. Rishi Kapoor’s style also turned into a jolt. Torn jeans, Bushshirts and Pulover became the style statement of the youth.

This film changed many narratives. Kishore love, new actors, younger generation rebellion, fashion, music and boldness attracted the youth a lot and this is where the era of teenage romance in Hindi cinema started.
