In a shocking case highlighting familial betrayal, a 103-year-old man from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been released on bail after spending 16 months incarcerated due to the actions of his own sons.

The heart-wrenching ordeal began in 2018 when Gurmeet Singh, the elderly victim, decided to donate five acres of his land to a local Gurudwara. Enraged by their father’s decision, his sons, Kamaljeet and Harpreet Singh, hatched a plan to deceive him. They misled their father into believing that the legal proceedings surrounding the land dispute had concluded while secretly attending court hearings themselves. Subsequently, a warrant was issued against Gurmeet, leading to his arrest and imprisonment.

For over a year, the elderly man languished in jail, abandoned by his own sons who never visited him. However, a glimmer of hope emerged when members of a local social service organisation encountered Gurmeet during a visit to the prison. Moved by his plight, they took up the responsibility of securing his release.

Despite the organisation’s relentless efforts, Kamaljeet and Harpreet continuously obstructed the bail process, further compounding their father’s suffering. Finally, after months of legal battles, justice prevailed, and Gurmeet was granted bail.

The social service organisation has pledged to provide the elderly man with shelter and care. Reflecting on his ordeal, a distraught Gurmeet expressed his pain, stating that no parent should endure such treatment from their children.
